Quality Point Index (QPI)

The Quality Point Index (QPI) determines a student’s rank in class. The QPI is based on semester grades earned in courses that are leveled to reflect the scope and depth at which a course is taught. Using “weighted” or “ranked” courses only, the QPI is determined by dividing the sum of the total points a student earns by her total credits attempted. A course ending in a 9 is not ranked and does not count toward class rank. Class rank is calculated at the end of the first semester junior year.

Quality points earned per letter grade received in class:

Course no. ending in A B C D F
0 earns 8 7 6 5 0
1 7.5 6.5 5.5 4.5 0
2 7 6 5 4 0
3 or 4 6 5 4 3 0
5 or 6 5 4 3 2 0
7 or 8 4 3 2 1 0
