Christian Environment

As a Catholic high school, Sacred Heart Academy faculty, staff and students strive to create an atmosphere of care and concern for one another. ³See how these Christians love one another² (St. John) is the expectation as the faculty and staff practice and encourage in their students the Ursuline core values of Community, Reverence, Leadership and Service. Approximately 85% of the students are of the Catholic faith.

Prayer
Opportunities for prayer are abundant at Sacred Heart Academy. Each school day begins with prayer led by the Agape (religious club) president. At least once a month, the school community gathers for liturgy. A weekly before school prayer opportunity and bible study are offered to students and faculty. Parents are invited to school regularly for prayer opportunities.

Religious Studies
A required four-year religious studies program includes courses entitled Revelation of God (Old Testament Study), Revelation History (New Testament), Social Justice, and Christian Ethics. For more information, contact Theology Department Chair Ted Elsesser at telsesser@sacredheartacad.com.

Four-year Retreat Program
Each year students are encouraged to participate in the retreat program. One-day retreats are offered to freshmen and sophomores. An overnight retreat is offered to juniors and the Christian Awakening four-day, three-night retreat is offered to seniors. For more information, contact Retreat Director Ruth Kelly at rkelly@sacredheartacad.com.

Service Program
As part of its mission and philosophy, Sacred Heart students are called to serve others. Service to others fosters a young personıs baptismal commitment and creates in her an understanding of the Christianıs call to serve others. SHA students complete hours of service apart from the school day each year. Freshmen and sophomores complete 25 hours of service, and juniors and seniors complete 30 hours of service. Annually, SHA students provide more than 15,000 hours of service to the Louisville community. For more information, contact Ruth Kelly at rkelly@sacredheartacad.com.
